Mass Shooting Injures 13 In Deep Red State

Gunfire tore through a gathering of young adults near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, late Sunday, sending at least 13 people to the hospital and triggering a wide search for the shooters.

Edmond police said they received multiple calls about shots fired around 9 p.m. near the lake, about 13 miles north of Oklahoma City. Authorities said the number of victims could change because some people drove themselves to area hospitals instead of waiting for an ambulance.

A hospital system later told Fox News that six of the 13 patients had been treated and released. Of the seven still hospitalized, four were listed in serious condition and three were listed in critical condition. Police said families of all known victims had been notified.

No arrests had been announced as of early Monday.

Investigators were also working to identify suspects. KOKH-TV reported that two men wearing ski masks opened fire, citing police. Authorities have not released additional suspect descriptions.

Edmond police spokeswoman Emily Ward said there was no known ongoing threat to the public as the investigation continued.

“This is obviously a very terrifying situation and we understand the concern from the public and those involved and we are working extremely hard to find the suspects,” Ward said.

“We’re kind of all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses,” Ward said.

Police said they are reviewing technology to help track down the shooters, including Flock license plate reader cameras, according to KOKH-TV. The cameras capture and flag vehicle information for law enforcement investigations.

The shooting happened at Arcadia Lake, a manmade reservoir built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that opened in 1987. The lake is managed by the city of Edmond and is a popular spot for fishing, boating, picnicking and camping.
