Minnesota Assassin Alleges Gov. Walz Directed Him to Kill Sen. Klobuchar in FBI Letter

Vance Luther Boelter, the 57-year-old suspect accused of a politically motivated killing spree in Minnesota, has sent a rambling letter to the FBI claiming that Governor Tim Walz instructed him to assassinate Senator Amy Klobuchar so Walz could pursue her U.S. Senate seat.

Boelter faces charges for the June 14 attacks that resulted in the deaths of former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and serious injuries to State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Law enforcement says he posed as a police officer wearing a latex mask and targeted multiple Democratic officials, leaving behind a manifesto listing around 70 potential victims.

The one-and-a-half-page letter, obtained according to insiders, also references alleged off-the-books military training and mentions other political figures, including Senator Tina Smith.

Both Governor Walz and Senator Klobuchar condemned the claims as baseless. “We have seen no evidence that the allegations regarding Governor Walz are based in fact,” said Hennepin County Attorney spokesperson Daniel Borgertpoepping . Walz’s office expressed relief at Boelter’s arrest, while Klobuchar described him as “very dangerous” and grateful law enforcement intervened before more lives were lost.

Boelter was captured in Sibley County after a two-day manhunt, during which authorities discovered a stockpile of weapons in his vehicle alongside his target list. He faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, stalking, and federal weapons offenses, and could face the death penalty if convicted.

The FBI continues to investigate the full scope of Boelter’s claims and motivations.
