The motorsports world is mourning the loss of former Indianapolis 500 driver Rick Treadway, who died at age 56 following a motorcycle accident.

Fox Sports reported Monday that Treadway passed away after suffering injuries in a crash on May 30, bringing a sudden end to the life of a racer remembered by friends and former competitors for his larger-than-life personality.

Treadway made his lone Indianapolis 500 start in 2002, qualifying 17th before finishing 29th in the No. 5 Sprint/Kyocera Wireless/Airlink Enterprises G Force-Chevrolet entry fielded by Treadway Racing, the team owned by his father, Fred Treadway. He competed alongside two-time Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk.

Luyendyk was among the first members of the racing community to pay tribute.

“Sad news hearing Rick Treadway passed away last Saturday. Our condolences go out to my former @IndyCar team owner Fred Treadway, Janice, and Brian Treadway.”

Treadway made his IndyCar debut in 2001 at Kentucky Speedway and competed through the 2002 season finale at Texas Motor Speedway. His best career finish came at Texas in 2001, where he placed fifth.

Before reaching the IndyCar ranks, Treadway built his racing resume in Sports Car Club of America competition and Formula 2000 racing.

Fans and fellow drivers quickly took to social media to remember him.

Busch died at a North Carolina hospital shortly before the annual Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The illness had reportedly sidelined him for weeks before his condition worsened.

Busch’s death also came just months after he and his wife, Samantha, reached an out-of-court settlement in a lawsuit against Pacific Life Insurance Company. Jury selection commenced on Monday, June 1, at the Collin County Courthouse in McKinney, Texas, for the first-degree murder trial of Karmelo Anthony, now 19. Anthony faces charges in the April 2, 2025, stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a Frisco Independent School District track and field meet at Kuykendall Stadium.

Approximately 600 potential jurors were summoned for the opening phase of the trial. The process involves questionnaires and questioning by Collin County District Judge John Roach Jr., attorneys for the defense, and prosecutors to select 12 jurors and six alternates. Due to extensive pretrial publicity, the selection is expected to take several days, with opening statements tentatively scheduled for Thursday, June 4, if a jury is seated.

The trial is anticipated to last about two weeks. Anthony, who has been on house arrest at his parents’ home, has pleaded not guilty and claims self-defense. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

On April 2, 2025, during a track meet delayed by thunderstorms, Karmelo Anthony, then a student at Frisco Centennial High School, was seated under a team tent belonging to Frisco Memorial High School, which he did not attend. Witnesses reported that Austin Metcalf, a Memorial student-athlete, and others asked Anthony to leave their tent.

An altercation then took place. Anthony then pulled out a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest. Anthony fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities and admitted to the stabbing, saying, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”

Anthony was carrying the knife on school grounds during the sanctioned athletic event. A grand jury ultimately indicted him on first-degree murder charges in June 2025.

Anthony’s family used portions of the funds for living expenses, including renting a home in a gated community and purchasing a luxury vehicle such as a Cadillac Escalade. Some accounts placed the total raised near or above $400,000 to $500,000, with public debate over the allocation of donations.

Anthony faces up to life in prison if convicted.

President Donald Trump said Monday he secured an agreement to halt an Israeli troop move toward Beirut after speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while also relaying that Hezbollah signaled it would stop firing.

A Panama-flagged container ship sustained significant damage from an explosion while operating off the coast of Iraq on Monday morning. The incident comes just hours after Iran abruptly suspended peace discussions with the United States over Israeli operations in Lebanon.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the ship was struck by an unknown projectile on its starboard side approximately 40 nautical miles southeast of Umm Qasr, Iraq, resulting in a large explosion. UKMTO advised vessels in the area to transit with caution and report suspicious activity.

The ship had departed Umm Qasr port after loading 96 containers after having arrived earlier from Qatar.

As of this report, the exact cause of the blast is unknown. Some Iraqi security sources described the event as a suicide boat attack, with footage circulating that shows a large hole in the hull and water ingress. Other Iraqi officials attributed it to a mechanical imbalance and loss of stability due to high winds, stating no attack occurred.

Iraqi authorities are investigating, and no group has claimed responsibility as of this report.

The vessel was later identified by Iraqi media as the Panama-flagged MSC SARISKA V. According to Iraq’s Alsumaria News, the ship experienced an explosion in Iraqi territorial waters near buoy number five after completing cargo unloading operations at Umm Qasr Port.

Images circulating online depict visible structural damage to the vessel’s starboard side. They show a significant breach or hole above the waterline, with signs of deformation and possible water ingress around the impact area.

Eugene Daniels made the claim on his show The Weekend while reacting to a five-minute video posted by Platner’s wife, Amy Gertner, who defended her husband after reports said Platner sent explicit messages to at least six women while married.

Daniels said the campaign wanted the booking, then pulled it.

It is not gossip if she brought it to the campaign herself and told them what it is. Graham Platner was supposed to come on the show… His team pulled out, Daniels said. They came to us and wanted to come on. They pulled out. I think we saw why yesterday as these stories came out.

Daniels also questioned whether voters have a full picture of the candidate.

Gertner’s video did not dispute the new allegations. Instead, she blasted what she called gossip coverage and urged attention on policy issues.

The remains of a missing Los Alamos National Laboratory employee have been found in northern New Mexico, nearly 11 months after she walked away from her home and disappeared, state police said.

New Mexico State Police said they have positively identified the remains as Melissa Casias, 54, who was last seen June 26, 2025. Her body was located in the McGaffey Ridge area of the Carson National Forest, about six miles from the last place investigators believe she was seen walking.

Police said a hiker discovered the body. Investigators also found a handgun near the remains. The Office of the Medical Investigator will determine Casias’ cause and manner of death, along with an estimated time of death.

Casias worked as an administrative assistant at Los Alamos National Laboratory, a facility founded during World War II’s Manhattan Project and tied ever since to national security and nuclear weapons research.

The case drew attention in part because of the odd circumstances of her disappearance. Authorities previously said Casias left behind her identification along with her work and personal phones, which had been wiped clean. Investigators said factory resets appeared to have been performed, erasing records that might have shown who she spoke with before she vanished.

Surveillance footage last captured Casias walking alone eastward on State Road 518, roughly three miles from her home in Ranchos de Taos, at about 2:20 p.m. the day she disappeared. The forest location where her body was found sits roughly five to six miles from that road, authorities said.

Casias had dropped her husband, also a Los Alamos employee, at the lab roughly 70 miles from their home earlier that morning, police have said. According to her husband, Mark, she had her security badge when she dropped him off. Her disappearance has also been discussed alongside other New Mexico missing-person cases involving people with ties to defense or sensitive research facilities, though authorities have not publicly linked those cases.

Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker previously told the Daily Mail that an administrative assistant at a high-clearance facility can be exposed to sensitive information and could be targeted. But Casias’ family and private investigators have questioned how much access she had, saying she had lost her security clearance due to financial troubles.

Iran and the United States exchanged fresh military strikes over the weekend and into Monday as negotiations aimed at ending the conflict remained stalled, underscoring the fragile nature of the ceasefire that has been repeatedly tested in recent weeks.

The U.S. military said it carried out what it described as self-defense strikes against Iranian radar and drone-control facilities after Tehran allegedly targeted American assets in the region.

Monday morning, Kuwait’s military announced it was responding to what it called “hostile missile and drone threats.” In a post on X, Kuwaiti officials said explosions heard in the country were the result of air defense systems intercepting incoming threats. The statement did not identify the source of the attack or its intended target, though Kuwait hosts a major U.S. air base that has previously come under attack from Iran and Iranian-backed groups.

U.S. Central Command said Sunday that American forces struck targets in Goruk and on Iran’s Qeshm Island after Iran shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone operating over international waters.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. fighter aircraft destroyed Iranian air-defense systems, a ground-control station and two one-way attack drones that officials said posed a direct threat to ships moving through regional waterways.

“No U.S. service members were harmed,” CENTCOM said.

Iran quickly responded. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Monday that its aerospace forces targeted the source of what it described as a U.S. attack on a telecommunications tower located on Sirik Island in Hormozgan province. Iranian officials did not disclose the location of the base they targeted.

In a statement carried by state media, the Guard warned that if American strikes continue, Iran’s response would be “completely different” and that Washington would bear responsibility for the consequences.

The latest exchange marks another escalation in a conflict that has continued despite a ceasefire reached in early April. The U.S. and Iran have traded strikes multiple times since then, including an Iranian attack on a military air base last week.

Meanwhile, efforts to negotiate a broader peace agreement remain bogged down by disputes over Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.

President Donald Trump addressed criticism of the slow-moving talks in a social media post Monday morning.

“Just sit back and relax,” Trump wrote. “Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us.”

The war has killed thousands, primarily in Iran and Lebanon, along with 13 American service members. The conflict has also rattled global energy markets after Iran effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.

Trump has insisted that any final Iran agreement must include a permanent commitment that Tehran will never obtain a nuclear weapon. He has also demanded the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for “unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions,” along with the removal of any naval mines from the waterway.

Iranian officials have accused the Trump administration of delaying a deal through what they call “excessive demands.”

Complicating matters further is the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, where Israeli forces continue military operations against the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group despite a ceasefire arrangement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel intends to maintain control over additional territory in Lebanon after Israeli troops captured Beaufort Ridge, a strategically important hilltop fortress and the deepest Israeli advance into the country in more than two decades.

As fighting continues, diplomatic efforts remain underway.

A U.S. official said Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently spoke with both Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun as part of negotiations aimed at reducing tensions. The official said Rubio proposed a framework that would “create space for gradual de-escalation and an effective cessation of hostilities” but did not provide additional details.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Monday that developments in Lebanon remain directly tied to broader negotiations.

Baghaei said a ceasefire in Lebanon was “integral” to both the current ceasefire and “any final agreement to end the war.”

He also accused the United States of violating the ceasefire through attacks on Iranian commercial shipping, calling the actions “both a violation of the ceasefire and an act of aggression against Iran.”

Despite ongoing communications between the two sides, Baghaei acknowledged that negotiations remain unresolved.

He said the U.S. and Iran continue to exchange messages, but “no final result has been reached.”

Los Angeles County election officials are investigating two incidents of possible election interference reported just two days before Election Day, including burned vote-by-mail ballots found inside a drop box and vandalism at a voting center.

The L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk said AIR7 captured video of the ballot drop box near the Civic Center in downtown Los Angeles. Officials said they discovered a small number of vote-by-mail ballots with fire damage inside the drop box Sunday morning and filed a report with the Los Angeles Police Department.

In a separate case, election officials said they found vandalism at the vote center located at Cesar E. Chavez Park early Sunday. The county said voting operations were not disrupted.

Investigators are working both cases and trying to determine whether any voters were affected. Election officials said voters whose ballots may have been damaged will be contacted directly and provided information on available options, including replacement ballots if necessary.

NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. says he was texting with Kyle Busch just one day before Busch’s sudden death, a final exchange that now reads like a gut punch for the racing world.

Busch, 41, was hospitalized last week after he became unresponsive while test-driving in a race simulator near Charlotte, North Carolina. He died last Thursday after what reports later described as a severe medical crisis that included pneumonia and sepsis. An official cause of death has not been announced in the initial family statement, though later reports cited details from a death certificate.

Earnhardt said their last messages were about racing, specifically a planned shop visit tied to the CARS Tour and a seat fitting for Busch’s late model.

“I was texting with him the day before he passed away about getting together this Thursday to bring his seat for his late model over to my shop,” Earnhardt said.

Busch’s answer carried extra meaning in Earnhardt’s orbit: “The Dale Jr. 8.”

Earnhardt said he didn’t hesitate. “You got it.”

Reports following Busch’s death said he had been dealing with illness in the days leading up to the hospitalization. A death certificate obtained by media outlets said Busch battled bacterial pneumonia that rapidly progressed into sepsis. The document said Busch had sepsis for roughly a day before a rapid formation of blood clots led to fatal hemorrhaging and blood loss.

Iran has suspended talks with the United States, according to Iranian state media, after accusing Washington and Israel of violating the terms of a ceasefire through military actions in Lebanon and continued pressure on Tehran.

The move throws fresh uncertainty over efforts to secure a broader Iran agreement that would extend the existing ceasefire and reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global energy markets.

Iranian officials announced the suspension after a sharp escalation in Lebanon, where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered strikes on Beirut’s Dahieh district, a southern suburb widely considered a stronghold of the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group. An Israeli source told CNN the operation was coordinated with the United States.

The development comes as President Donald Trump continues to push for tougher terms in negotiations with Tehran. U.S. officials said Trump recently returned proposed revisions to a draft agreement, demanding stronger language regarding Iran’s nuclear obligations and a firmer commitment to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Before the suspension was announced, Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, accused Washington of undermining the ceasefire.

“The US blockade of Iran’s ports and Israel’s war in Lebanon are clear evidence” of the United States’ “noncompliance with the ceasefire,” Ghalibaf said.

Iranian state media reported that Tehran viewed recent developments in Lebanon as a direct violation of the agreement, prompting officials to halt discussions with the Trump administration.

The suspension follows a series of military developments across the region.

On Monday, Netanyahu confirmed he had instructed Israeli forces to strike targets in Beirut’s Dahieh district as Israel expands its campaign against Hezbollah. Israeli officials have signaled that operations in southern Lebanon could intensify in the coming days.

The Israeli military also announced that its forces captured a strategic Crusader-era castle in southern Lebanon after several days of heavy fighting. The historic site sits roughly 9 miles from Israel’s northern border and overlooks key terrain in the area.

At the same time, tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to rise.

U.S. Central Command said American forces carried out what it described as “self-defense strikes” against Iranian military infrastructure over the weekend. CENTCOM did not immediately provide additional details regarding the targets.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded by claiming responsibility for an attack on a U.S. air base allegedly used in operations targeting an Iranian telecommunications facility. The claim was carried by multiple Iranian state-run media outlets, though independent verification was not immediately available.

The latest breakdown in talks marks another setback for diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the region after months of conflict involving Iran, Israel and U.S. forces.

Despite the suspension, the Trump administration has continued to signal interest in reaching a broader Iran agreement that would address Tehran’s nuclear program, restore maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and preserve the existing ceasefire framework.

For now, however, negotiations appear to be on hold as fighting continues in Lebanon and tensions between Iran and the United States remain elevated.
