Dog Accidentally Shoots Woman At Traffic Light

A dog triggered a loaded shotgun inside a pickup truck during a stop at a Nebraska gas station Saturday, sending a blast through the vehicle and injuring a woman sitting at a nearby traffic light, according to local reports citing Nebraska authorities.

The shooting happened shortly after noon when the truck pulled into the Short Stop gas station and convenience store at 2002 Avenue I, KNOP reported.

According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, the dog was left inside the vehicle while the owner went into the store. Another passenger also stepped out but remained near the front passenger-side door, the outlet reported.

Police said the dog moved around in the back seat area and came into contact with a shotgun stored in the vehicle. Authorities indicated the firearm appeared to have a live round in the chamber and went off after being triggered.

The blast went through the truck’s front passenger-side door, traveled out of the parking lot and hit a woman in another vehicle several yards away, police said. KNOP reported that a shotgun pellet struck the upper portion of her right arm, which was resting out the window at the time.

Her injuries were not considered life-threatening. A family member drove her to Regional West Medical Center for treatment, the outlet reported.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said the incident was initially reported as involving a BB gun, but responding officers were later told it involved a shotgun, according to KNOP. Investigators also noted damage to the truck’s passenger-side door consistent with a shotgun blast, the outlet reported.

Video shared on social media showed the tense moment as the weapon discharged and the driver exited the vehicle. In footage cited by Univision, an armed man could be heard issuing commands in Spanish: “The key, quick. Key, phones, and wallets, quick,” the report said.

The Scottsbluff Police Department said it will continue investigating how the firearm was stored and handled inside the vehicle.

Fox News Digital reported it contacted the Scottsbluff Police Department seeking more information.
