A sweeping joint federal immigration enforcement operation is currently unfolding in Downtown Los Angeles, with a specific focus on the MacArthur Park neighborhood—a long-standing hotspot for MS‑13 gang activity.

On Monday, roughly 900 California National Guard soldiers, supported by 17 Humvees and tactical vehicles, joined ICE and Border Patrol agents to secure the area, protect law enforcement personnel, and carry out detentions, according to the Associated.

The deployment follows a broader escalation under President Trump’s administration, which previously dispatched both National Guard troops and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles amid sanctuary city tensions.

Despite calls from L.A. Mayor Karen Bass for the federal raids to cease, declaring they were tearing communities apart, the Department of Homeland Security has doubled down on its actions in the district.

The city’s ongoing operation is part of a federal crackdown on undocumented immigrants, with MacArthur Park singled out due to its known links to MS‑13 criminal networks .

While ICE and DHS emphasize that their tactics are lawful, locally elected officials have condemned the measures as heavy-handed and harmful to immigrant communities.

Mayor Bass spearheaded a coalition of over 20 Southern California officials to demand a halt to the raids, labeling the enforcement a destructive strategy that sows fear and disrupts daily life.

Recent courthouse confrontations and viral footage have reflected the escalating tensions: heartbroken communities, claims of agent impersonation, and at least 380 protest-related arrests in the region.

Legal advocacy groups have since filed federal lawsuits alleging civil rights violations, citing warrantless detentions and racial profiling.

Despite the local pushback, DHS and ICE officials insist enforcement will continue unabated. The intense deployment in Downtown L.A.—with military vehicles, heavily armed agents, and sweeping arrests—is the administration’s clearest statement yet that sanctuary city policies will not deter federal action.

A remarkable turnaround in religious practice is taking hold in the United Kingdom as church attendance among Generation Z has quadrupled in recent years, reversing decades of decline in Christian affiliation.

New data from the Bible Society’s “The Quiet Revival,” based on YouGov surveys conducted in 2018 and 2024, shows that regular monthly church attendance among 18- to 24-year-olds has surged from just 4 percent in 2018 to 16 percent in 2024. A particularly striking development is that 21 percent of young men in that age group now attend church monthly, compared to only 4 percent six years ago.

Analysts including former pastor Ryan Burge have pointed out that in some metrics, Gen Z is now more likely than Millennials to be weekly religious attendees—an unexpected development in a secular age . The shift extends beyond mere attendance: denominations like Catholicism and Pentecostalism are increasing their share among younger congregants, while Anglican affiliation declines.

Observers describe Gen Z’s embrace of faith as a response to a “meaning crisis.” In an era marked by political turmoil, mental health pressures, and post-pandemic disconnection, many young adults seek spiritual grounding, community, and purpose—needs they say secular ideologies have failed to meet.

This revival is part of a broader European trend. France, for instance, has seen the highest number of adult baptisms in over two decades, signaling growth in Christian commitment elsewhere on the continent.

While the Quiet Revival signals positive momentum, experts stress that the resurgence is subtle—akin to a rising tide rather than a tidal wave. It is felt more at the cultural and individual mindset level than in packed pews across the board. Many churches still report modest gains, with concentrated growth in urban centers and certain denominations.

This surge among young Britons challenges long-held assumptions that generational religiosity is doomed. It offers insight into how faith, far from being obsolete, may be presenting itself as a meaningful anchor for those navigating a fragmented modern world.

A protest against gentrification in Mexico City’s Condesa and Roma neighborhoods escalated into a riot on Friday, as demonstrators targeted American “digital nomads” and foreign tourists. Chanting slogans such as “Gringos, stop stealing our home” and “Get out of Mexico,” some rioters called for Americans to be driven out—and, in extreme comments, even killed.

The unrest, fueled by resentment over skyrocketing rents and cultural displacement, began as a peaceful march but quickly turned violent. Protesters smashed storefront windows of upscale businesses, spray-painted graffiti reading “Get out of Mexico,” and harassed foreign visitors in the streets and on the Metro.

Locals say the wave of American expatriates and remote workers inflating rental prices has altered the fabric of once-tight-knit communities. “Mexico City is going through a transformation. There are a lot of foreigners, namely Americans, coming to live here,” said 19-year-old student Michelle Castro during the protest.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Since the pandemic, Mexico City has drawn thousands of U.S. residents seeking lower costs and cultural vibrancy. Their presence has coincided with rising rents—fuelled largely by Airbnb and short-term rental conversions—which many long-time residents blame for being priced out.

This backlash joins a global trend seen in cities like Barcelona, Paris, and Rome, where overtourism and the digital-nomad boom have prompted resistance and legislative calls to limit short-term rentals.

City officials deployed reinforcements and sirens rang near the U.S. Embassy as authorities worked to contain the unrest. No confirmed arrests or casualties have been reported yet.

Activists are calling for tighter housing laws, regulation of short-term rentals, and foreigner tax reforms to protect residents from displacement. Debate now intensifies over how Mexico City can balance its economic attractiveness with preserving its cultural identity and housing affordability.

A young girl was rescued alive after floating on a mattress for nearly three hours amid severe flooding in Central Texas, U.S. Representative Chip Roy confirmed today. The girl was carried by swift floodwaters along the Guadalupe River before being discovered and pulled to safety by rescue teams.

Representative Roy, who has been actively monitoring relief efforts, described the girl’s rescue as miraculous. “PRAISE THE LORD,” he said in a social media post, noting that she was found safe alongside the mattress that kept her afloat for hours.

The incident occurred in the same catastrophic flood event that has devastated Kerr County and surrounding areas, where authorities report at least 43 deaths—including 15 children—with dozens more still missing. Floodwaters rose suddenly, inundating neighborhoods, camps, and roads as rivers surged up to 29 feet, sweeping away homes and vehicles.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Statewide, over 850 people have already been rescued during this disaster, with teams from the Texas National Guard, local emergency services, and first responders deploying helicopters, boats, and drones to search devastated areas.

Following her rescue, the girl was reunited with her family. She is reportedly in stable condition and receiving medical attention. Officials continue urging residents to obey evacuation orders and avoid flood-affected areas as further rainfall is possible.

As search-and-rescue operations persist, this remarkable survival story stands out amid widespread tragedy and loss in the region.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed on Friday that more than 850 people have been successfully rescued from widespread flooding across Central Texas, as emergency teams continue to respond to one of the state’s worst natural disasters in recent memory.

The flooding, triggered by days of torrential rain and fueled in part by the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry, has devastated multiple counties, including Kerr, Travis, and Hays. Rivers such as the Guadalupe rose rapidly—at some points by nearly 30 feet—submerging roads, sweeping away vehicles, and overwhelming neighborhoods and summer camps.

Emergency crews from local agencies, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas National Guard have been deployed across the region, using helicopters, boats, high-water vehicles, and drones in ongoing search-and-rescue operations. According to Governor Abbott, over 1,300 emergency personnel have been mobilized, working around the clock to reach those stranded by floodwaters.

The confirmed death toll has also risen, with at least 43 lives lost in Kerr County alone—including 15 children. Many of the missing were attending Camp Mystic, a popular summer retreat near the Guadalupe River, when the flooding began. First responders continue to search for dozens still unaccounted for, with efforts focused on hard-hit areas near campsites and rural homes.

Governor Abbott praised the rescue efforts as “heroic” and urged residents in affected areas to remain alert, follow evacuation orders, and avoid flood-prone zones. He has also expanded the state’s disaster declaration to include over twenty counties and has requested additional federal assistance to support the ongoing response.

[This post contains video, click to play]

The National Weather Service has warned that further rainfall could exacerbate flooding in the coming days. Emergency shelters have been opened throughout the Hill Country, and volunteers across the state are providing aid to displaced families.

The scale of the disaster has drawn national attention, with President Trump pledging federal resources and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem coordinating relief support with state officials.

As search and recovery operations continue, Texas communities are bracing for more challenges ahead. With hundreds already rescued and more at risk, officials say the coming days will be critical in minimizing further loss and beginning the long path to recovery.

The Mayor of Kerrville has confirmed that a total of 27 people have lost their lives in the devastating flooding that struck the region earlier this week. In a press conference this morning, Mayor Jessica Hartley reported that the victims included 18 adults and 9 children.

The flooding, which began after heavy rainfall overwhelmed local rivers and streams, caused widespread damage throughout the area. Rescue teams are continuing to search for missing individuals, but the situation remains critical as more storms are forecasted for the coming days.

Mayor Hartley expressed her condolences to the families affected by the disaster and praised the efforts of local first responders and emergency crews. “We are heartbroken by this loss, and our community will work together to support those impacted,” Hartley said.

[This post contains video, click to play]

As of now, recovery operations are underway, with the National Guard and local volunteers assisting in rescue and relief efforts. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but the mayor urged residents to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders when issued.

Senator Rand Paul (R‑Ky.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, is preparing to issue a subpoena for Dr. Anthony Fauci to testify under oath regarding his role in the COVID-19 pandemic and grant funding linked to gain‑of‑function research.

Paul announced the move after former President Biden issued a preemptive pardon to Fauci in January, covering actions through the start of 2025.

Legal experts say that accepting a pardon typically requires the recipient to waive Fifth Amendment protections against self-incrimination, meaning Fauci would be compelled to testify or risk being charged with perjury if he lies under oath.

Paul has long criticized Fauci’s handling of COVID‑19 and has sought records about NIH funding provided to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. He alleges Fauci misled Congress during previous hearings by underplaying the agency’s support for gain-of-function research.

Paul argues that Biden’s pardon removes Fauci’s ability to “plead the Fifth,” opening the possibility of perjury charges if he again gives misleading testimony.

Earlier this year, Paul used his committee authority to subpoena 14 federal agencies, including NIH, HHS, and DHS, seeking documents related to virus origin and risky biological research. Now, he plans to add Fauci himself to the investigation.

Legal analysts caution that compelling testimony—even from pardoned individuals—is rare but not unprecedented. Should Fauci testify and be found to have lied, he could face federal perjury charges punishable by up to five years in prison.

Fauci, who retired in 2022 after nearly four decades at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has previously denied any wrongdoing and defended NIH’s research funding decisions. His acceptance of the pardon signaled cooperation with the executive branch but did not clarify whether he would testify.

Paul’s subpoena would force Fauci into a high-stakes legal and political confrontation over what the senator describes as “the origins of COVID‑19 and public accountability.”

As the Senate gears up to issue the subpoena, the broader investigation into pandemic-era funding and oversight intensifies, fueling a new chapter in the ongoing debate over COVID‑19 origins and policy transparency.

The jury in the federal trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued a partial verdict on four of the five charges but remains deadlocked on the most serious allegation—racketeering conspiracy.

Federal Judge Arun Subramanian has ordered the jury to return to the deliberation room to continue discussing that outstanding charge.

After approximately 12 to 13 hours of deliberation, the jury informed the court that they reached a verdict on Counts 2 through 5—comprising two sex‑trafficking charges and two counts of transportation for prostitution relating to his ex-partners Cassie Ventura and another woman identified as “Jane.”

However, they were unable to agree on Count 1, the racketeering conspiracy allegation under the RICO statute, citing “unpersuadable jurors on both sides.”

Both the prosecution and defense requested that a partial verdict not be accepted, and Judge Subramanian concurred. He addressed the jury directly, instructing them to resume deliberations on the outstanding racketeering count. Jurors will reconvene tomorrow morning to continue their discussions.

The racketeering charge carries the gravest potential penalty, including life imprisonment if Combs is found to have orchestrated a criminal enterprise through at least two predicate offenses from a list that includes kidnapping, arson, sex‑trafficking, forced labor, drugs, or other crimes.

[This post contains video, click to play]

The trial, which began in May 2025, laid out allegations that Combs led a pattern of coercive abuse—dubbed “freak-offs”—involving drug‑fueled, multi-day sexual events with escorts, which were documented and used as leverage.

Prosecutors emphasized the systemic nature of the alleged crimes, whereas the defense presented text messages reflecting consent and affection, describing the encounters as consensual.

Combs, 55, remains in custody and faces a potential life sentence if convicted on any major charges. The trial has garnered intense public scrutiny, fueled by dramatic testimony and graphic allegations.

As deliberations resume, both sides await the jury’s final resolution on the racketeering charge—an outcome that could determine whether a full verdict against Combs is possible.

A utility worker sustained minor injuries after an 18-wheeler collided with his bucket truck while he was repairing a traffic light on Wednesday afternoon, according to law enforcement and video evidence.

Dashcam footage captured the moment the semi-truck turned onto Range Avenue from I‑12, striking the elevated arm of the bucket truck and sending the worker dangling upside down while secured to the bucket by a mandatory safety harness.

East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Transportation Director Fred Raiford highlighted the importance of the tether:

“That is a mandate we have: when you’re in that bucket truck, you’ll have that harness on,” he told.

According to the Denham Springs Police Department, the worker suffered only minor scrapes and bruises and did not require hospitalization. Other motorists were unharmed.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, which manages the affected traffic light, and local police have opened an investigation into the incident.

The 18-wheeler driver remained at the scene and reportedly told authorities he didn’t realize how low the bucket truck’s arm was as he made his turn.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Attorney General James Uthmeier are moving forward with a controversial migrant detention center, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” set to begin operation Tuesday, according to state officials .

Located on a disused airstrip in the Big Cypress National Preserve, approximately 45 miles west of Miami, the site is being developed to hold up to 5,000 migrants in a network of tents and temporary structures. State officials cite the surrounding alligators and pythons as natural security features, eliminating the need for extensive perimeter fencing.

The Florida National Guard has deployed around 100 troops, with operations expected to begin on July 1.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Controversy Erupts

Native Tribes, including the Miccosukee and Seminole, are strongly protesting. They say the site lies on sacred ancestral land, containing ceremonial grounds and burial sites.

Environmental advocates warn the project threatens sensitive Everglades ecosystems, including wetlands and endangered species like Florida panthers.

Critics describe the plan as inhumane, citing heat, wildlife hazards, and lack of infrastructure at the remote site.

Governor DeSantis has defended the project, calling it a cost-effective, temporary solution and dismissing environmental impact concerns as minimal

Funding and Broader Plans

Some of the project’s cost—approximately $450 million annually—will be funded through a FEMA Shelter and Services grant, not hurricane relief funds. DeSantis has also indicated a second detention center could be established at Camp Blanding to support federal deportation efforts
