Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass personally intervened at a federal immigration operation in Downtown L.A., demanding that ICE and Border Patrol agents “need to leave, and they need to leave NOW,” as they executed raids in the MacArthur Park area—known for MS‑13 activity—amid a broader sanctuary policy standoff.

Witnesses reported Mayor Bass standing at the scene alongside protesters, confronting heavily armed federal agents and urging them to withdraw.

In the face of her demands, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem doubled down on the operation, with federal officials stating unequivocally that no city official, including Mayor Bass, would obstruct enforcement efforts or face arrest. They stressed that sanctuary-city policies would not deter ICE from fulfilling its mandate.

[This post contains video, click to play]

The confrontation is the latest flashpoint in escalating tensions between the Trump administration and local officials over immigration.

Earlier this week, the Department of Justice filed suit against the city, invoking the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause to challenge L.A.’s sanctuary ordinances as obstruction of federal law. Deputy Attorney General Pam Bondi warned that federal law enforcement must not be impeded by local resistance.

Federal agencies argue they are invoking lawful authority to arrest undocumented individuals even in sanctuary jurisdictions, including courthouses, streets, and public spaces.

Mayor Bass’s vocal defiance—her physical presence at an active enforcement site and public assertions of obstruction—has been met with fierce criticism from Trump administration officials, who have called for her removal or arrest if she continues to interfere.

Local officials maintain that sanctuary policies are vital for keeping immigrant communities safe and maintaining trust between residents and city authorities. They argue that federal raids in public spaces disrupt community stability and discourage vital cooperation with local law enforcement.

The clash in MacArthur Park marks yet another significant escalation in the ongoing struggle over immigration enforcement in Los Angeles, highlighting a deepening divide between federal authority and sanctuary city governance.

Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol conducted arrests of several undocumented immigrants in a Manhattan federal courthouse today, provoking a dramatic confrontation involving a State Senator and City Councilman who physically attempted to block the operation.

Footage from inside the courthouse shows the agents escorting detained individuals out of the courtroom while the two elected officials intervened, physically placing themselves between officers and the subjects of the arrest.

Despite their actions, ICE proceeded with the detentions, moving several individuals into custody.

The incident took place amid heightened tensions over the aggressive enforcement policies of the Trump administration. In recent weeks, federal raids have expanded to include immigrants attending their scheduled court appearances, a strategy that critics argue undermines access to due process and sows fear in immigrant communities.

The Manhattan arrests are consistent with courthouse enforcement trends seen across New York City.

ICE has ramped up activity, detaining undocumented individuals at federal courthouses in Manhattan—including last month when several were apprehended upon arrival—and facing resistance from lawmakers like Rep. Dan Goldman, who condemned the actions as reminiscent of “Gestapo-like behavior”.

Local officials such as City Councilman Brad Lander, who was arrested in June after attempting to block an immigrant’s capture in the courtroom, have faced federal arrests themselves during these high-stakes confrontations. The recurring clashes highlight the growing friction between federal immigration enforcement and local legal authorities in sanctuary cities.

ICE defends its conduct, stating that the arrests were lawful and that court appearances do not grant immunity from enforcement actions. The agency points to its policy allowing civil immigration arrests inside federal buildings when individuals are present as part of immigration proceedings.

Advocates for immigrants, courts, and civil liberties are calling on Congress and New York State lawmakers to enact stronger safeguards—such as requiring judicial warrants for courthouse arrests—to prevent disruptions to court access and reduce fear-driven absenteeism.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Critics argue that law enforcement is weaponizing courtrooms and violating long-held norms of due process.

With the nation watching, today’s episode marks the latest flashpoint in the ongoing legal and political battle over immigration. Its outcome may shape future policies on how and where federal agents can carry out civil immigration arrests—especially where democratic oversight and public transparency are at stake.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety and U.S. Marshals Service, executed a targeted worksite raid in Brownsville this week, resulting in the arrest of multiple Mexican nationals residing in the United States without legal authorization.

The operation, part of a broader enforcement effort by ICE’s Rio Grande Valley field office, focused on verifying employment eligibility under federal law. Agents conducted inspections of Form I‑9 compliance at two separate construction sites in Brownsville.

Officials report that several individuals—primarily citizens of Mexico—were detained and are now facing removal proceedings.

ICE released a statement affirming its commitment to ensuring a secure labor market and upholding immigration regulations. “Individuals who violate federal immigration and employment laws not only undermine fair labor standards but also pose potential security and safety risks.

ICE will continue to work with our partners to identify and investigate those who disregard the law,” said Craig Larrabee, Special Agent in Charge of ICE Homeland Security Investigations in San Antonio.

These arrests follow similar actions earlier this month, in which ICE detained a dozen undocumented workers—mostly from Mexico and El Salvador—at business sites in Harlingen and San Benito during coordinated enforcement activities across the Rio Grande Valley region.

[This post contains video, click to play]

ICE identifies its worksite enforcement strategy as a critical part of its mission to deter illegal employment and reduce incentives for unauthorized migration.

Federal law mandates that U.S. employers verify an employee’s eligibility to work through the I‑9 employment verification process. Non-compliant worksites may trigger inspections, civil fines, or criminal charges.

Critics, including immigrant advocacy groups and local representatives, argue that such raids disrupt families and communities, fostering fear among immigrant workers—many of whom are employed in essential industries.

Some residents of the Rio Grande Valley have responded with increased community support efforts and calls for humanitarian aid.

The individuals arrested in this latest operation are being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings. No additional details regarding criminal charges, if any, have been released.

ICE continues to encourage public cooperation, urging citizens to report suspected illegal employment or smuggling activity via its tip line.

President Donald J. Trump, alongside Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, announced during a visit to “Alligator Alcatraz” in the Florida Everglades that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are evaluating legal action against CNN.

The possible prosecution stems from CNN’s reporting on ICEBlock, an app that alerts users to nearby Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Noem stated, “what they’re doing is actively encouraging people to avoid law enforcement activities… we believe is illegal,” and confirmed coordination with DOJ to pursue charges.

President Trump echoed support for the initiative, coupling it with criticism of CNN’s recent coverage of U.S. airstrikes in Iran. He asserted the reports were false and harmful, and “may very well be prosecuted” over those “totally false reports” regarding military operations.

[This post contains video, click to play]

What’s Next

The DOJ could launch a preliminary review to assess whether CNN’s reporting crosses legal boundaries, potentially escalating to a full investigation or special counsel appointment.

If such an inquiry advances, it could trigger constitutional challenges and public outrage over government intervention in independent journalism.

The episode marks a continuation of President Trump’s confrontational stance toward mainstream media, targeting outlets he deems “fake news” and potentially pursuing legal consequences for press coverage.

President Donald J. Trump has issued a strong warning against New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, stating that if Mamdani interferes with federal immigration enforcement, he could be arrested.

Speaking during a tour of a new immigrant detention facility in the Florida Everglades, President Trump sharply criticized Mamdani’s immigration policies, calling him a “communist” and “a total nut job.”

He added, “We don’t need a communist in this country, but if we have one, I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation. If he gets in the way of ICE, we’ll have to arrest him.”

[This post contains video, click to play]

Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old state assemblyman and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, recently secured the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City by defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo through ranked-choice voting.

He has publicly pledged to block Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the city and declared that, under his administration, New York would not cooperate with federal immigration raids or deportation efforts.

President Trump’s remarks highlight an escalating clash between the federal government and sanctuary city policies. While local governments cannot legally obstruct ICE operations, they are not required to assist either.

The President also hinted at possible financial repercussions for the city, saying, “If he doesn’t behave, we’re cutting the money.”

The comments have drawn criticism from Democrats and civil liberties advocates, who argue that President Trump is using the power of the federal government to intimidate political rivals. Mamdani’s campaign responded by reaffirming its position on immigrant protections and denounced the threat of arrest as politically motivated.

Despite the controversy, the Trump administration has made it clear that it will not tolerate local interference with immigration enforcement.

As the 2025 mayoral race heats up, immigration policy and federal authority have become defining issues—not only for New York, but for the broader national debate under President Trump’s second term.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has informed federal officials that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national and Maryland resident, will be moved to a third country following recent legal rulings, according to Politico.

Abrego Garcia, 29, has been detained in Tennessee since early June after being mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March—despite a 2019 court order preventing his removal due to credible gang-related threats. He pleaded not guilty to human smuggling charges stemming from a 2022 traffic stop.

A U.S. magistrate judge authorized his release pending trial but the decision was delayed amid concerns ICE would immediately detain him again on immigration grounds. Homeland Security has since clarified that he “will never be free on American soil” and plans to transfer him to another country, such as South Sudan, rather than El Salvador.

Defense attorneys argue ICE must coordinate with the Department of Justice to ensure Abrego Garcia remains in U.S. custody to face trial, noting the conflicting imperatives of criminal proceedings and deportation protocols.

His case has sparked controversy and criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of immigration enforcement. A federal appellate panel recently scolded the administration’s defiance of court orders, citing violations of due process and judicial authority.

An evidentiary hearing on the matter is scheduled for July 16, where the court will decide if ICE must honor the magistrate’s release order or proceed with deportation to a third country

Federal authorities used non-lethal force, including tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash-bang grenades, to break up a protest outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in southwest Portland on June 18, officials and video footage show .

According to the Department of Homeland Security, roughly 250 demonstrators attempted to block access to the facility, throwing fireworks and shining laser beams at agents in riot gear. Videos from the scene depict agents launching crowd-control munitions from elevated positions to disperse the crowd after protesters breached a glass entrance.

The Portland Police Bureau later declared the situation a riot, and at least three people were arrested by local police for offenses including assault and trespassing. DHS stated federal charges are being pursued against those who assaulted law enforcement or obstructed agents — with five arrests reported in total.

This confrontation follows a series of “No Kings” protests across major U.S. cities, including Portland, earlier on June 14, which primarily focused on immigration and federal authority. While these daytime marches were largely peaceful, the evening sessions near the ICE site turned confrontational.

Portland officials have worked in recent years to limit tear gas usage following extensive unrest during 2020 social justice protests. However, federal enforcement remains separate, focusing on protecting federal property and personnel.

What Officials Are Saying

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin: “250 rioters launched fireworks, shined lasers … assaulted federal officers. Ultimately, five individuals were arrested … We won’t sit idly by.”

Portland Police: Confirmed three local arrests, stressing that some charges are filed after the fact based on video and criminal complaints .

Palestinian-American activist Mahmoud Khalil, freed just days ago from over 100 days in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention, has swiftly returned to the front lines — leading a protest at Columbia University in support of Palestinian rights.

Khalil was released on June 20 after a federal judge in New Jersey ruled his prolonged detention—on tenuous grounds tied to political advocacy—likely violated his constitutional rights. The judge also criticized the government’s reliance on vague national-security provisions to justify holding a green-card holder without criminal charges.

Upon his release from the Jena, Louisiana, ICE facility, Khalil flew back to New York. He was greeted by his wife, Dr. Noor Abdalla, and their newborn son.

Within 48 hours, he was back near Columbia’s campus, presiding over a rally to protest what he called “Columbia’s punitive measures” against pro-Palestinian student activists. He accused the university of expelling or suspending dozens of students for exercising free speech and demanded greater solidarity in the face of war in Gaza.

“We are here: Free, Free Palestine,” Khalil declared, referring to the institution’s alleged attempts to suppress dissent.

Khalil’s detention ignited a wave of legal and public pushback, notably from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who defended his First Amendment rights. The Trump administration has appealed the release order, with Homeland Security asserting that Khalil’s activism intersects with hostile foreign policy interests. Despite legal battles and deportation threats, Khalil emerged resolute:

“If they threaten me with detention, even if they would kill me, I would still speak up for Palestine.”

Following his return, Khalil reiterated his commitment to pro-Palestinian advocacy, asserting his efforts should be protected, not punished. He remains free under a judge-set travel restriction to New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Washington, D.C., and Louisiana while facing ongoing legal proceedings

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced Friday that more than 700 individuals have been arrested in connection with recent anti-ICE demonstrations and riots in Los Angeles and other cities across the U.S.

“We are NOT done. I told you we would not forget. I wasn’t kidding,” Bongino stated during a press briefing. “We are pouring through data in pursuit of more bad actors.”

The wave of arrests follows weeks of unrest sparked by anti-immigration enforcement protests that turned violent in several metropolitan areas. According to Bongino, individuals responsible for throwing projectiles at officers, damaging federal property, and inciting violence have been identified, and federal agents are actively “moving in.”

In addition, Bongino confirmed that the FBI is now working in partnership with the IRS to investigate the financial networks behind the demonstrations. Officials say they are tracking donations, shell accounts, and digital transactions believed to be linked to organizations funding the riots.

“We will hold not just the rioters, but also their enablers accountable,” Bongino added.

No specific names of financiers or organizations have been released as of this report. However, federal law enforcement has assured the public that further arrests and indictments are expected.

An anti-ICE demonstrator suffered a serious facial injury after being struck by a rubber bullet during the “No Kings Day” protest in downtown Los Angeles.

Marshall Woodruff, who attended the rally, says he was shot in the face by law enforcement during the event. The impact caused severe trauma to his right eye and cheek, requiring emergency surgery.

“The bullet fractured my cheek and tore into my eye,” Woodruff explained. “I ended up in surgery for about four or five hours that same night.”

While doctors were able to perform repairs, the extent of the damage to his vision remains uncertain.

“There’s still a big question mark over how much I’ll be able to see out of my right eye,” he said. “We just don’t know yet.”

The incident has sparked renewed criticism over the use of rubber bullets in crowd control, particularly during peaceful protests.
